On August 18th, 15:30 (South Africa time), the International Joint Laboratory for New Energy established by our University and the University of South Africa and the China Cooperation Center of the African Sustainable Development Energy Institute of the University of South Africa held a grand unveiling ceremony in Johannesburg, South Africa. The Chinese Ambassador to South Africa, Lin Songtian, the president of our University, Zhu Liguang, the president of the University of South Africa, Mandla Makhanya, and Daan Du Toit, Deputy Director-General of the Ministry of Higher Education and Science, South Africa, were attendance and addressed. The event was attended by nearly 100 people, including Sakhi Simelane, Chairman of the Board of Directors of the University of South Africa, Diane Hildebrandt, Director of the African Sustainable Development Energy Institute of the University of South Africa, Counsellor Hou Lihong of the Chinese Embassy in South Africa, the director of the International Cooperation Department of our University, and the dean of School of Chemical and Pharmaceutical Engineering.
In his speech, Chinese Ambassador to South Africa, Lin Songtian made congratulations on the successful holding of the unveiling ceremony. Lin Songtian fully affirmed the important achievements and progress made in the cooperation between our university and the University of South Africa, and hoped that both sides would jointly train scientific and technological leaders and high-level innovation teams to play a model role for scientific and technological innovation cooperation between China and South Africa by using the joint laboratory unveiling ceremony as a new platform and carrier.
Zhu Liguang and Mandla Makhanya said in their speeches that both sides will take this platform as an opportunity to further expand cooperation and connotation, deepen cooperation between the two university in the fields of personnel training, discipline construction, academic exchanges and enhance the level of joint research, technology transfer and transformation of results, so as to promote cooperation to a new level, build a new model for scientific and technological innovation cooperation between China and South Africa.
Daan Du Toit made congratulations on the official unveiling of the China Cooperation Center and the Joint Laboratory in his speech. He pointed out that China is a major partner in the development of scientific and technological innovation of South Africaand that the Ministry of Higher Education and Science and Technology of South Africa attaches great importance to scientific and technological innovation cooperation with Hebei University of Science and Technology. They also will further strengthen exchanges between young scientists of the two countries and universities, and actively create more platforms and opportunities for innovative scientific reaserch cooperation between the two countries.
Prior to the unveiling ceremony, ZhuLiguang held talks with Lin Songtian, Mandla Makhanya and Daan Du Toit. Zhu said that Hebei University of Science and Technology will actively implement the national belt and road initiative, continue to provide support to Professor Diane Hildebrandt's team from many aspects, such as funds, equipment and personnel, and do a good job in serving cooperation projects to effectively play the role of discipline construction and scientific research radiation. After the unveiling ceremony, the University of South Africa awarded the University of South Africa Doctoral Mentor Stake letter to the faculty of our School of Chemistry and Pharmaceutical Engineering.
